My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

The hunt for the best foundation has always been a struggle for me… I’ve always had sensitive and combination oily skin, so finding something that lasts long and doesn’t make me look super greasy was something I had a problem finding.

When picking a foundation you have to ask yourself a few questions…

What are your skin issues?
What kind of coverage are you looking for?
What is your price range?
How do you want to look? (ex. natural, glamorous, dewy…)

Once you answer those questions, you can then start looking. Now, the most important thing to me is to have the right shade. This was a bit of a struggle for me for a while – I came to realize that I needed two different shades of foundations: one for the winter time and one for the summer (when I’m tanner). I do spray tan a lot and would also need the darker shades for those situations.

I would definitely recommend going into a Sephora, MAC, of Ulta and get color matched… Instead of purchasing it right away see if they can give you a sample and try it for yourself for a day and see how you like it and how it lasts throughout the day. A couple times I’ve found that it looks great when they match you, so I bought the whole bottle… But when I went to apply it the next day and it didn’t last at all!

Those are just a few tips I have when choosing the right foundation. Now, on to my top 4 favorite foundations!

1.) Revlon Colorstay

My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

I absolutely love this foundation! I found out about this one from reading a blog. The lady used this and looked amazing and flawless… So of course I had to give it a try.

Loved it! Not only is it extremely affordable, it’s also easy to find and has quite a large variety of colors.

When you go to use this just make sure not to be too heavy-handed because a little goes along way (and you don’t want to look “cakey”).

The coverage I would say is medium to full and has a matte finish. If you have oily skin like me you can go over it lightly with a loose powder; but again, just be careful not to go too heavy.

Great for: Combination/Oily Skin
Pros: Long Lasting; 24 hour wear; flawless look; looks great in pictures
Cons: Can feel a little heavy at times; have to wash twice to fully remove; if applied too heavy can look cakey
Price: $10.99 (drugstore)

2.) MAC – Studio Fix Fluid

My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

This actually used to be my go-to foundation until I started using Revlon, and don’t get me wrong… I still love MAC or it wouldn’t be on my top 4!

This foundation is wonderful; it’s the first foundation I found after starting to look for the “right one” years ago and I always tend to go back to it. It has a flawless look with a slightly dewy finish, SPF 15 and is definitely long-lasting. They have several different shades to choose from and it’s easy to find either at most department stores, MAC stores, or online.

The only issue I had with this one was getting an exact match to my skin – it was either too pale or too dark. I also found when wearing the “lighter” shade and taking pictures that my face would be completely washed out, which didn’t look cute. But, if you find the right shade it’s long lasting and it doesn’t dry out my skin.

I wore this in Dominican Republic for a wedding and after taking pictures outside for an hour (in high humidity) it still looked great!

Great for: Combination/Oily Skin
Pros: Long Lasting, Flawless Look, SPF 15
Cons:Make sure to get the right shade so it doesn’t wash you out, can be little dewy (if oily you’ll have to use powder to touch up)
Price: $27 (online MAC store)

3.) Makeup Forever – Mat Velvet

My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

I just tried this one out last summer when we moved to Florida. I heard this foundation was long-lasting and stayed in place… and it does!

This is a wonderful foundation that’s oil-free, which is great for me since I have sensitive skin. It also has a very smooth and velvety texture that feels nice on your skin.

Make Up Forever has a lot of different shades; the thing I found with this one is that it feels lightweight (which is awesome), but when it came to the color it was little too dark for me, so I probably need to go down a shade or mix two.

Great for: Sensitive Skin, Oily Skin
Pros: Long Lasting, Matte Finish,  Flawless look, Lightweight
Cons: Make sure to color match
Price: $38 (online Make Up Forever store)

4.) Too Faced – Born This Way

My Top 4 Favorite Foundations

Too Faced just came out with this foundation a few weeks ago and I have to say – it’s absolutely beautiful!! It is so lightweight, but still has great coverage and is oil-free!

I really wanted to find something for every day that felt light, but still pretty… and this is exactly what I was looking for. For an event like a wedding I would most likely go with the Revlon or the Makeup Forever just because they are more matte, heavier and long lasting (and look great in pictures). But for everyday wear, this is perfect!

The only negative thing I would say is if you tend to get oily you will need to set this with a loose powder (and probably bring a compact for touch ups because it has a dewy look to it).

Give this one a try; it will not disappoint and you will feel gorgeous!

Great for: Combination Skin
Pros: Natural Look, Long Lasting, Oil-free, Lightweight
Cons: Dewy (see above)
Price: $39 (online Too Faced store)

These were just a few of my favorites and I’m sure I’ll be trying more in the future because I’m always going to be on the hunt for the perfect foundation…

In the mean time though, I love all four of these and would feel confident wearing each one!

Please feel free to share your favorites! I’m always wanting to try something new and who knows… it could be my new favorite 🙂
