10 Summer Beers Under 200 Calories
Summer will be here before we know it!
So many thing to look forward to… Taking time off, hanging out with friends, beach, sun, sand – and of course, a nice cold drink in hand.
Now, if you are in the same position I’m in, I’ve been working really hard to get in shape and be healthy – especially with swimsuit season upon us.
We all have our own personal goals like wanting to look and feel good… But at the same time, we also want to enjoy our summer and having a drink or two goes hand-in-hand with that.
Speaking of drinks, I’ve put together here a list of 10 summer beers under 200 calories.
These are some great beer choices that will keep your calories low, but are still delicious and refreshing – perfect for a day at the beach.
The first list is a selection of beers that you most likely already know about, but are a great choices nonetheless. The second list has some fun and diverse beers with something there for any beer-drinker.
If you’re looking to try something new and be adventurous, go for list number #2… But, if you just want something light, refreshing and classic stick with #1.
With both lists you have so much to choose from that you won’t be stuck with just your typical Bud Light all summer long (which can be great too).
Either way there is something for everyone to enjoy!
The Usual Suspects
1.) Corona Light
Calories: 99
Gotta love the Corona Light… It’s the epitome of summer!
I automatically think about laying on a beach when I take a sip of corona.
This is definitely my go-to for a light, refreshing and low calorie beer (only 99 calories!).
Finish this one off with a lime wedge and maybe even some chips and salsa. Safe to say, you can enjoy this without the guilt.
2.) Samuel Adams Summer Ale
Calories: 166
I usually enjoy any Sam Adams beer and this was no exception! This is an American Wheat beer with lemon, grains of paradise and a rare pepper from Africa (so cool!).
This is a great beer choice if you’re looking for something crisp with a little bit of spice 🙂
3.) Bud Light Lime
Calories: 116
I love me a Bud Light Lime!
This lime-flavored light lager is a perfectly light and crisp choice for the summer. In my opinion, it’s very comparable to Corona Light (with a lime) – the lime flavor is just more apparent.
The great thing about most of these beers (besides being delicious and low in calories) is that most stores and bars carry them so you don’t have to worry about having to settle for a higher calorie drink.
Tip: What helps me stick to my calories or at least not go too far overboard is to always have a plan and a backup (…and sometimes another backup). Yes, sometimes I just wing it and enjoy myself and try not worry about calories… But if it’s something that’s important to you, it’s good to have a game plan for what you’re going to drink… And what you’re going to drink if they don’t have that… Or that!
This way, I don’t choose some mixed drink or heavy beer because they didn’t have that one drink.
4.) Leinenkugel Summer Shandy
Calories: 130
I was so surprised when I saw that this beer was under 200 calories… Probably because it feels like a treat with the crisp and slightly sweet lemonade taste.
This beer is perfection for a summer day. It’ brewed with wheat, malted barley and a bit of Wisconsin honey. They then mix that with lemonade and citrus flavors.
Just reading that description, I still can’t believe it’s only 130 calories… I will definitely be enjoying a few of these this summer! 🙂
5.) Shock-Top Belgian White
Calories: 167
Here’s another great citrus-infused beer, one that’s super flavorful while still light – and only 167 calories!
This beer is a spiced Belgian-style wheat ale with orange, lemon and lime peels with a hint of coriander. This beer is a little bit heavier compared to the list above and obviously a bit higher in calories, but overall a great choice!
The Undiscovered Gems
1.) Schofferhofer Hefeweizen Grapefruit
Calories: 136
I actually posted a pic of this on facebook a few weeks ago… I had this beer in Disney World in Epcot at the Germany Pavillion and fell in love with it instantly. Seriously I just can’t get enough of it!
This is a Radler beer brewed with Hefeweizen and a grapefruit mix. It’s cloudy orange in color and has a slightly sweet grapefruit flavor with a punch of wheat.
The minute I had this, I said to my husband, “This may have to be my summer beer of choice!” (Yeah, it’s that good.)
2.) Kona Fire Rock
Calories: 189
Fire Rock is an awesome beer and a great choice if you’re looking to try something new – but not too crazy.
This is a pale ale, copper in color from a unique blend of specially roasted malts. It also has a slight floral and citrus aroma to it which I think keeps this beer feeling light, flavorful and unique.
3.) Dogfish Head Festina Peche
Calories: 160
This is a Berliner Weiss beer that is fermented with peaches… YUM!!
I haven’t tried this one yet, but it is on my list! I love pretty much everything that Dogfish Head makes – especially their Punkin Ale (love me some pumpkin beer!). I feel like this beer will not disappoint and with the peach flavor it will make for a crisp and refreshing summer beverage.
4.) Southern Tier Hop Sun
Calories: 155
Oh Southern Tier, how I love you!!! I’m dying to try this one and I hope it lives up to the hype (though I suspect it will).
Hop Sun is a summer wheat beer that has flavors of wheat, barley, hops (of course), hints of lemon and sweet malts. It has a slight bitterness that rounds it all out to make a delicious and refreshing summer beer.
5.) New Belgium Summer Helles
Calories: 155
You can never really go wrong with anything from New Belgium… From PumpKick to Fat Tire, they brew some delicious beer.
Summer Helles is a German-style lager with the aroma of fresh grains, spicy hops, sweet corn and honey.
It has a crisp, slightly fruity yet spicy flavor, and though it’s on the lighter side, the flavor is still bold… Count me in!
These are just a handful of the beers I’ll be drinking this summer, but they’re nevertheless my go-to choices for enjoying a sweet beverage while staying within my calorie count.
